Getting To Whidbey
Flying In
Coupeville, WA is a two-hour drive from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) and just an hour's drive from Paine Field Everett (PAE). You can rent a car at either airport or take the Whidbey-Seatac Shuttle, which picks up at both locations and drops off in downtown Coupeville.
From there, it's a 5 minute drive to Captain Whidbey.
For the most convenient travel to your accommodations and the freedom to explore Whidbey Island over the weekend, we recommend renting a car.
We will provide shuttle service from Coupeville to Captain Whidbey before the ceremony. In the evening, limited shuttle service will be available to return guests to Coupeville or other island accommodations.
Please note that Uber and Lyft services on the island are infrequent and unreliable.
With a car you have several options:
1
Recommended: You can take the Clinton-Mukilteo car ferry just north of Seattle! Reservations are not required, and driving up is first come first served. This option is lovely because it allows you to break up the trip and get out of your car to walk around.
2
You can “drive around” the island by taking I-5 and approaching from the north through Deception Pass Bridge, which avoids the ferry. While the overall travel time is the same (or sometimes less if ferry is busy), this does add 50+ miles to your travel.
3
If you're coming from the Olympic Peninsula, you can take the Port Townsend-Coupeville ferry on the west side. This ferry offers reservations, and it's best to book at least two weeks in advance to guarantee a spot.
Driving
All routes provide breathtaking views, and we recommend both the car ferry experience AND Deception Pass State Park at least once during your visit.
Please note, if taking the ferry there are often delays during rush hour. Give yourself ample time on the chance of missing a boat. Consider using Ferry Friend or checking the Live cams from WSDOT for more detailed ferry info. Note that there will additionally be traffic between Seattle and Everett on Friday and Sunday, so pad your travel times accordingly.
If in doubt that you’ll be able to catch a ferry or your travel times are tight, drive around.
